Federal Grand Jury Declines to Indict Cassidy Hutchinson

5 minutes ago 0

A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., has decided not to indict Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide in the Trump White House. This decision follows the Justice Department’s efforts to pursue criminal charges against her over statements made to Congress in 2022, as confirmed by two sources to Fox News Digital.

The Justice Department aimed to charge Hutchinson with lying to the House committee that was investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. However, this attempt did not succeed, according to sources. It remains uncertain whether federal prosecutors will try again to secure an indictment.

Hutchinson’s Involvement

Hutchinson served as a top aide to Mark Meadows, the former White House chief of staff. She became a key witness for the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot and former President Donald Trump’s attempts to contest the 2020 election results.

During a highly publicized hearing in June 2022, Hutchinson testified about Trump’s actions on January 6. She shared an account, reportedly from another White House official, detailing Trump’s reaction upon learning he could not accompany his supporters to the Capitol. Her testimony regarding a confrontation in the presidential vehicle was later disputed by others familiar with the incident.

Grand Jury Proceedings

Fox News Digital previously reported on the federal grand jury in Washington reviewing evidence related to possible false statements made by Hutchinson to Congress. According to a source, new evidence might have been presented to the grand jury soon after, but no conclusive decisions regarding criminal charges were made at that time.

The New York Post also indicated that the Justice Department was investigating Hutchinson over possible false statements to Congress. However, the grand jury’s refusal to indict does not determine the validity of Hutchinson’s congressional testimony. Hutchinson has consistently supported her account.
