Federal Authorities Investigate Allegations Against Rep. Ilhan Omar

White House border official Tom Homan recently confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security is investigating allegations involving Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. However, he refrained from providing specific details, labeling it an “ongoing criminal investigation.” When asked about evidence of immigration or naturalization fraud committed by Omar, Homan did not provide a comment.

Homan emphasized that no one, including congress members, is above the law and stated, “If someone committed an immigration violation, if someone committed marriage fraud or anything like that, we’ll let Homeland Security Investigations continue the investigation.”

In a previous inquiry about an investigation involving Omar, Homan mentioned, “I’m confirming that ICE is, yeah – there’s something that’s been reported and needs to be looked at.” Allegations suggest that Omar married a man alleged to be her brother as part of an immigration scheme, a claim she has denied and described as “bigoted lies.” These claims have not been proven in public records.

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin remarked on a podcast about potential action, stating, “We know that she married her brother to try to bring him to the United States. We know he now lives in London. There may be more to this, the whole family migration and possibly some illegal activity.” He added, “If we can prove’ that you shouldn’t have been here in the first place, we will deport you.”

Vice President JD Vance mentioned in May that the Justice Department is investigating whether Omar committed immigration fraud. He stated, “It certainly seems like something fishy is there, but everybody’s entitled to equal justice under the law.” Vance also previously discussed potential legal actions against Omar with White House immigration advisor Stephen Miller.

Homan explained that denaturalization is a process for proven cases of immigration fraud. He noted, “If someone lies through that process to becoming a citizen, and we can prove they, in fact, lied or misrepresented themselves, we can absolutely denaturalize them.” He added that this process has been used frequently over the last 40 years.
