Fauci Faces Senate Committee Over COVID-19 Origins and Diary Revelations

Dr. Anthony Fauci, formerly the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, recently testified before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic in Washington, DC. He is expected to appear again before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in July 2026.

Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., published diary entries by Fauci that cover the COVID-19 pandemic period. These 1,141 pages highlight Fauci’s private thoughts versus his public statements on the origins of the coronavirus.

Paul and Fauci have a long-standing disagreement over the virus’s origin. Fauci supports the idea that SARS-CoV-2 originated from an animal in a wet market in Wuhan, while Paul questions if the virus was engineered in a lab. Fauci has consistently pointed to scientific research supporting the natural origin theory, but Paul continues to investigate potential links to lab research.

The release of Fauci’s diary entries occurred just before his Senate hearing. Paul argues these reveal discrepancies in Fauci’s statements about the market as the virus’s origin. Fauci’s entries from early 2020 indicate a complex scientific debate that evolved over time as more evidence was gathered.

This Wednesday, Fauci faces Paul again during a Senate hearing. Questions will likely focus on his diary’s contents and pandemic-related decision-making. Fauci has previously dismissed claims without evidence, calling them a waste of time in an entry from August 2021.
