Father’s Day and Cardinals vs. Royals Game Analysis

3 days ago 0

Happy Father’s Day to everyone celebrating. Being a father, dad, stepdad, grandpa, or uncle is a gift, and today is the perfect day to recognize it. In celebration, I’m watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals game.

Cardinals Season Outlook

The St. Louis Cardinals were predicted to face another challenging season. They made significant trades in the offseason, parting ways with their top pitcher, Sonny Gray, and veteran hitters, Nolan Arenado and Willson Contreras. Despite these changes, the team’s young players are showing improvement, adapting well, and contributing to their .247 batting average, scoring an average of 4.5 runs per game. Although they have lost the last three games and struggled on the road, there’s plenty of reason to feel optimistic about the Cardinals.

This Sunday, Dustin May starts for the Cardinals. May has become a pleasant surprise with a season record of 5-6, holding a 3.75 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. His performance remains consistent both at home and away, though he struggles during day games with a 5.73 ERA. His previous start was outstanding, pitching a complete-game shutout against the San Diego Padres, allowing only one hit and one walk.

Royals Performance Analysis

The Kansas City Royals are facing challenges. Expectations were high for them this season, considering the division’s competitive landscape. Currently, sitting 13 games below .500, they need a hot streak to compete effectively. Despite the talent on their roster, the Royals are underperforming with their stats similar to the Cardinals in both hitting and pitching.

The Royals’ pitching staff has seen some trouble, boasting a higher ERA of 4.48 compared to the Cardinals’ 4.22. Stephen Kolek starts for Kansas City today and has been one of their better pitchers. With an impressive record of only eight starts, he maintains a 2.68 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP, especially strong at home.

Kolek has performed well against the Cardinals this season, pitching 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk. Today’s game could see the total runs under nine, considering both pitchers’ recent performances. Dustin May hasn’t allowed a run in his last 15 innings, while Kolek maintains a solid form with minimal base traffic.

Betting Insights

Analyzing WHIP gives insight into base traffic during pitches, with both May and Kolek keeping players off the basepaths. For today’s game, taking the under nine runs and betting on the Royals holds appeal. May struggles during the day, while Kolek is a strong performer at home, offering an advantageous position.

I recommend betting a full unit on each option, feeling confident in both. Enjoy Father’s Day with some exciting baseball action.
