Authorities are investigating a fatal car accident that occurred on Thursday at a Trader Joe’s parking lot located at West 3rd Street and Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. One person was killed and four others were injured after an elderly woman drove into a group of pedestrians.
The Los Angeles Fire Department received a report about the incident at 1:21 p.m., detailing a vehicle crash into a security stand at the parking lot near the Grove. Upon arrival, emergency responders pronounced one person dead on the scene while four others were taken to a hospital for treatment.
The driver involved in the collision was identified as a woman in her 80s, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, which is conducting the investigation. Helicopter footage aired by KTLA showed paramedics treating the injured. A white canopy covered the deceased, and a white sedan with noticeable front-end damage was seen pinned against a partially damaged structure. Firefighters were also seen assisting an older woman in a wheelchair.
Details regarding the identity of the deceased and the cause of the crash have not been released.
