Although the Eagles’ defense forced a Bears’ three-and-out on the next drive, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts felt pressured on his next possession. This pressure resulted in an interception on a 4th and 5 play from the Chicago 46-yard line with just 27 seconds left in the third quarter.
Chicago capitalized on this momentum with an eight-play, 40-yard drive that lasted over eight minutes, concluding with a touchdown by veteran backup quarterback Case Keenum. This drive sealed the game with a final score of 27-7. During a postgame press conference, Sirianni expressed regret over not going for a 4th and 1, acknowledging it would have been a better decision in hindsight. “Looking back, I probably should have gone for it,” Sirianni admitted, as reported by PHLY Voice’s EJ Smith. He noted the challenge of the long one yard but was more satisfied with his choice to attempt the fourth and five play.
The Eagles struggled with gaining crucial yards, managing only 248 total yards compared to the Bears’ 375, and they lost the turnover battle 3-0. Starting the season with narrow victories over the Washington Commanders and the Tennessee Titans, the Eagles have yet to reach their full potential. Their next game will be against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4.
