17 hours ago 0

Dusty May has accepted the role of head coach for the Dallas Mavericks, a surprising move in the NBA offseason. This decision comes after Jason Kidd was released from his duties. May, previously coaching the Michigan Wolverines, will now focus on developing a team around Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving.

Exclusive Interviews

“The alignment with the front office and ownership group,” May shared in a Fox News Digital/OutKick interview, expressing enthusiasm for taking the job. “Additionally, a young superstar in Cooper with one of the best point guards in the history of our game!”

May’s Coaching Success

Months earlier, May led Michigan to triumph in the 2026 national championship, highlighting his prowess as a top coach in basketball. At age 49, he achieved a 64-13 record during his tenure with the Wolverines.

May’s upward journey in coaching is notable. After leading Florida Atlantic to a Final Four spot in 2023, he accepted the Michigan position in 2024, reviving the team as a national contender. His college coaching record over four seasons was an impressive 124-26.

Implications for Michigan

May’s exit means Michigan must embark on an unexpected summer coaching search. The Wolverines maintain a skilled roster featuring Final Four Most Outstanding Player Elliot Cadeau, sophomore Trey McKenney, and prominent transfers.

NCAA regulations grant players the chance to reconsider their roles once a new coach is appointed.
