Durbin Offers Meeting to Angel Mom During AG Hearing

Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., expressed his willingness to promptly meet with Jennifer Bos, an Angel Mom, during the second day of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s confirmation hearing. Bos, during her testimony, emphasized the lack of attention given to Angel Parents advocating for immigration reform.

“Miss Bos, anxious to meet with you,” Durbin remarked. “I hope we can do it soon, maybe right after this.” Bos, whose daughter’s body was tragically discovered in a bleach-filled container—a case involving an illegal immigrant charged with concealing her death—spoke before the Senate Judiciary Committee to support Blanche’s nomination. Her involvement highlighted the Trump administration’s commitment to addressing violent crime and enforcing immigration laws.

Angel Families, like Bos, consist of relatives affected by crimes involving illegal immigrants. They have long urged lawmakers for stricter immigration policies. During a statement from Bos, she revealed the challenges Angel Moms face in communicating with their legislators. “This is the first time I’ve ever spoken with him,” Bos noted. “I haven’t spoken with them. He spoke to me.”

Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., responded by expressing hope that the Attorney General would engage with victims, emphasizing the importance of such meetings. Bos also mentioned that several legislative efforts introduced last session went unacknowledged by Democratic officials, indicating difficulties in initiating dialogue, particularly with those opposed to the proposed laws.

Sen. Durbin followed this by offering to meet with Bos immediately after the hearing concluded. “I didn’t know it was a hardship for you to make this journey here, testify, from Illinois,” Durbin addressed Bos, aiming to accommodate her availability. “And I don’t want you to have to wait to see me. I want to meet with you now, and we can talk as soon as this meeting adjourns, if it’s okay with you, if it fits in your schedule.”

Jennifer Bos shared the profound suffering her family endured after her daughter, Megan Bos, was found partially decomposed in April 2025. The Lake County Coroner’s Office deemed the cause of death “undetermined,” unable to ascertain if it was a homicide or drug-related.

Jose Luis Mendoza-Gonzalez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico involved in the case, faced charges such as concealment of a death and obstruction of justice, but an Illinois judge ruled these did not warrant pretrial detention under state law. Consequently, ICE intervened and detained Mendoza-Gonzalez for his undocumented status in July 2025.

Bos commended Blanche for taking action after local authorities fell short. She praised ICE’s Victims Of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) office for providing comfort after the alleged perpetrator’s release due to sanctuary laws in Illinois.

“I’m asking the committee not to wait until another mother is sitting where I am,” Bos stated during her remarks. “Confirm Todd Blanche. He is a leader who will uphold the law, honor victims, confront dangerous criminal organizations, and fight to give other American families the safety and lasting protection that came too late for mine.”

Currently, Mendoza-Gonzalez remains in federal immigration custody, with pending state charges related to Bos’ death. Fox News Digital reached out to Durbin’s office for further comments.
