A severe drought is affecting the natural food sources that bears rely on, forcing them to venture closer to human settlements. Recently, this has led to some unfortunate incidents.
Last week in Montana, wildlife officials were compelled to euthanize 14 black bears on a private property. A cub found there has been relocated with the possibility of being placed in a zoo, according to an official statement.
“These bears were unafraid of humans and stopped relying on natural foods,” remarked Montana game warden Captain Josh Leonard. “It’s very unfortunate they had to be euthanized.”
The move highlights the increasing challenges both wildlife and humans are facing as natural habitats diminish due to environmental changes.
