Hurricanes have become more intense and damaging in recent years. However, evidence does not suggest they are increasing in number. In October 2024, a fisherman was seen reeling in his catch on Tybee Island, South Carolina, as Hurricane Milton moved into the Atlantic Ocean. This event was captured by Richard Burkhart of the Savannah Morning News and distributed through the USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect.
Interestingly, the current year could be the first since 1914 without any recorded hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean. Additionally, nearly two years have passed since a hurricane made landfall in the continental United States.
