In Tyler, Texas, Vice President JD Vance discussed the Trump administration’s stance on the Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., following a raid on her Washington, D.C., residence. Vance confirmed to Fox News Digital that the administration plans not to interfere but emphasized legal action would be taken if immigration fraud is found.
Vance, speaking after a rally in Texas, stated, “We don’t want to be like the Biden administration… We really want to let the law, the facts drive this. And if justice requires something else be done, then, of course, we’ll take a step when we have to.”
The raid on Omar’s home was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, the main investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security. This action led to immediate reactions, with conservatives drawing parallels to the FBI raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, and accused the previous administration of political interference against Trump.
“In the Trump administration, unlike the previous administration, we let the facts and the law drive this stuff,” Vance insisted. He stated the administration’s commitment to allowing the DOJ’s process to unfold without their interference, although suggesting legal proceedings would occur if necessary.
Rep. Omar has dismissed the claims of an investigation into her for alleged immigration fraud, attributing these actions to political motivations by her opponents. She has vocally criticized the tactics used against her, arguing they are unprecedented and politically charged.
Vance reiterated the emphasis on legal procedure, regardless of political implications. “I think we have to let the facts and the law drive this, right?” he stressed, emphasizing a commitment to legal principles over politics.
Additionally, Vance criticized Omar’s perceived negative attitude towards the U.S., stating, “We have very rarely had a person in Congress who seems to have such disdain and such rage at the country that gave her a better life. Now, that’s not a crime. But we’re going to see whether she did commit a crime.”
Vance made these remarks following his rallying efforts in support of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is in a competitive race with Democratic Rep. James Talarico.
Responding to the raid, Omar accused the Trump administration of using federal law enforcement as a political weapon and reiterated her stand against what she views as intimidation tactics.
Peter D’Abrosca, a politics reporter at Fox News Digital, reported that Omar’s office did not provide a comment prior to publication.
