DOJ Charges Non-Citizens in Minnesota for Alleged Voter Fraud

10 minutes ago 0

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has indicted several non-citizens in Minnesota, accusing them of voter fraud. Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter shared details on ‘Saturday in America’ about these charges. Federal prosecutors have brought charges against 50 individuals for voting-related crimes in the last month. Furthermore, the DOJ is contesting a Florida federal judge’s ruling that struck down a law prohibiting non-citizen voting.

In parallel, the Trump administration faces a lawsuit over its attempts to gather and analyze voter data nationwide. Filed in Washington, D.C., this lawsuit claims the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) violated federal law by secretly obtaining voter records from 47 states and mishandling them. The lawsuit is brought by groups including the League of Women Voters and the League of United Latin American Citizens.

The Trump administration argues that non-citizen voting threatens election integrity, although instances are reportedly rare. Federal courts have typically resisted efforts to increase federal control over voter eligibility and election processes, responsibilities primarily managed by states.

The lawsuit seeks to declare the administration’s actions illegal, demanding DHS stop using the collected voter data. The action precedes Election Day, with the administration still pressing states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls.

Recently, the administration has sued California election officials for allegedly delaying the review of names identified as probable non-citizens. The DOJ insists these names be scrutinized before counting their mail-in ballots. California’s secretary of state’s office claims insufficient time was allocated for this review and questions the evidence provided to support these claims.

The lawsuit asserts that a multi-agency review by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services confidently identified around 20,000 individuals on California’s voter rolls as probable non-citizens. There has been no immediate response from DHS regarding these allegations.
