A dog reportedly activated a shotgun inside a truck at a Nebraska gas station, injuring a woman in a nearby vehicle. This incident occurred on Saturday, according to local authorities.
Shortly after noon, the truck pulled into Short Stop, a gas station and convenience store located at 2002 Avenue I, as reported by KNOP. The dog was left inside the vehicle when the owner entered the store. Another passenger exited the truck but remained near the front passenger-side door.
Authorities explained that the dog moved in the rear seat area and triggered the shotgun stored in the truck. The firearm had a live round in the chamber and discharged.
The blast went through the front passenger-side door, exited the parking area, and hit a woman stopped at a nearby traffic light. A shotgun pellet struck her upper right arm, which was resting out the window. Her injuries were not life-threatening, and a family member took her to Regional West Medical Center for treatment.
No other injuries were reported. Initially, the incident was thought to involve a BB gun, but responding officers later confirmed it involved a shotgun.
An investigation by the Scottsbluff Police Department revealed damage to the vehicle’s passenger-side door in line with a shotgun blast. The department will continue investigating the matter.
