Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts faced an unexpected decision during the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers. With the team trailing 2-0 and Shohei Ohtani struggling at the plate, Roberts had to consider his lineup for Game 3.
Despite Ohtani’s postseason slump, Roberts decided to trust his star player. He noted, “He’s adamant he feels good enough to be in there,” referring to Ohtani’s ongoing injuries. “He’s close to finding something with his swing. I feel great about it.”
Ohtani has been the designated hitter for the Dodgers but has not performed well in the postseason. His batting average has dropped to .150, and he has not achieved any extra-base hits or RBIs.
Roberts faced questions about keeping Ohtani in the lineup after expressing doubts post-Game 2.
After consulting with Andrew Friedman, the president of baseball operations, and general manager Brandon Gomes, Roberts confirmed Ohtani’s inclusion in the lineup. “He was very convicted that he is onto something mechanically,” Roberts said. Ohtani himself stated that his injuries should not prevent him from playing well.
Roberts’ decision reflects his unwavering confidence in Ohtani, despite the player’s recent challenges. The Dodgers hope this decision will spark a turnaround in the crucial Game 3.
