Djokovic Celebrates First-Round Win at French Open with Dance Challenge

4 weeks ago 0

Novak Djokovic, a tennis legend known for his unmatched success, achieved yet another victory during the first round of the French Open. The event, held at Roland-Garros, saw Djokovic, the third seed, triumph over France’s Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in four sets.

Despite his extensive record of over 400 Grand Slam match wins and 24 major tournament titles, Djokovic celebrated with the enthusiasm of a newcomer. His unique celebration included a dance combination that drew attention. The official Roland-Garros account on X shared a video of Djokovic dancing in a stairwell, adding an extra layer of excitement to his victory. In the video, Djokovic playfully challenged Aryna Sabalenka, the top-ranked women’s tennis player and a close friend, to a dance-off. Although Sabalenka hasn’t responded to the challenge yet, her presence on TikTok suggests she might soon rise to it.

Sabalenka, well-known for her performances, is set to start her campaign at the French Open against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro of Spain. Though Sabalenka has secured titles at the Australian and US Open in the past, she has yet to win a French Open or Wimbledon. She narrowly missed the title last year, losing to Coco Gauff in the final.

Djokovic has enjoyed success at Roland-Garros three times, with his latest victory in 2023 against Casper Ruud. His next challenge will be facing Valentin Royer of France on Wednesday.

Djokovic’s exuberant dancing could also be due to relief, as Carlos Alcaraz, this year’s two-time defending French Open champion, will not compete. Alcaraz is currently recovering from a wrist injury. He had previously defeated Djokovic in the 2026 Australian Open and Wimbledon tournaments in 2023 and 2024.
