Karoline Leavitt, former White House press secretary, recently shared insights into President Donald Trump’s reaction following a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) Dinner in April. On the show “Hang Out with Sean Hannity,” Leavitt described Trump as eager to return to the event, despite the danger.
Leavitt mentioned Trump’s determination, saying, “He was like a caged lion, insisting, ‘We gotta go back out there.'” She herself felt hesitant, concerned about the risks involved. Trump had expressed difficulty cooperating with the Secret Service during this incident.
Leavitt also attended the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner with Trump. This event, initially slated for April 25 at the Washington Hilton, was rescheduled and moved after a security breach. The suspect, Cole Allen from Torrance, California, allegedly targeted Trump administration officials, excluding FBI Director Kash Patel.
Chaos ensued as guests sought cover. Despite the circumstances, Trump focused on resuming the event and questioned his security detail about returning to the ballroom. He even expressed willingness to wait all night. Plans to continue the dinner were already forming, according to Leavitt.
Trump later addressed the public from the White House briefing room. He held a press conference recounting the shooting with top officials by his side. This ordeal renewed Trump’s push for a White House ballroom to host secure official events.
