Dannon’s Coffee Yogurt Discontinuation Sparks Outcry

2 hours ago 0

Dannon’s coffee-flavored yogurt has gathered a strong following over the years. Its recent disappearance from store shelves has sparked a wave of disappointment among devoted fans. Many have taken to social media and started a petition to bring back the beloved product.

A Change.org petition notes, “In an unexpected move, Dannon recently discontinued their much-loved coffee yogurt flavor as of April 1.” Fans are calling for the product’s return, citing the yogurt’s unique mix of rich coffee flavor and creamy texture as an ideal, healthier snack.

“This has left countless fans of this unique and delicious product in dismay,” the petition states.

The coffee yogurt, often referred to by its enthusiasts as “DCY,” contained approximately 32 milligrams of caffeine per 5.3-ounce cup. This caffeine level is about a third of that found in an 8-ounce cup of coffee, supplemented by 11 grams of added sugar, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Doron Zeif, a lawyer from New Jersey, consumed DCY for 40 years. “It’s what I got out of bed for,” Zeif told the publication. Fans like Zeif now urge Dannon to reintroduce the flavor after its recent discontinuation.

Lisa Signorelli, a retired resident of New York, shared in the Journal that she used to purchase DCY by the case for her five-decade-long affection for the flavor. The petition further expresses that the discontinuation has deprived yogurt lovers of a cherished choice, especially those who enjoy coffee’s distinct taste.

Online discussions mirror this sentiment. One Reddit user expressed withdrawal after Dannon’s discontinuation, noting, “I’ve been happily eating it for years.” The user recognized other coffee yogurt brands but emphasized that texture was key.

A Reddit user reminisced, “My grandmother, who passed in 2011, had one every day. It was special when she shared it with me. It’s the best flavor! Please bring it back.” Others echoed these views, expressing frustration over the loss.

Fans are exchanging tips to recreate the DCY experience. Suggestions include adding coffee to other yogurts, though results vary. Some, like a “recovering fanatic,” found solace in trying alternatives like Icelandic Provisions Cold Brew Coffee Skyr, which won them over.

Rafael Acevedo, Dannon’s yogurt division president, hinted at a potential return. “Dannon coffee yogurt will come back in ways that reflect current taste and nutritional preferences,” Acevedo told the Journal.

Dannon encourages fans to reach out. A post on their Instagram showcasing DCY reads, “Miss it? We’d love to hear from you.” The promise of updates suggests possibilities for the flavor’s return in a new form.
