Rep. Madeleine Dean from Pennsylvania stated on “News Central” that Graham Platner’s controversies render him unfit for the U.S. Senate race in Maine. Although not a Maine voter, she expressed strong doubts about his qualifications, citing the ongoing scandal surrounding him. Platner, a combat veteran and oyster farmer, is eyeing the Democratic nomination against Republican Sen. Susan Collins.
The controversy stems from allegations reported by Fox News Digital involving Platner’s former girlfriend, Lyndsey Fifield, who accused him of physical aggression during their relationship more than ten years ago. While Platner has acknowledged personal shortcomings, he denies the allegations as politically motivated.
Platner’s candidacy is further troubled by prior incidents, including explicit text exchanges with married women and a Nazi-related skull tattoo he claims ignorance of until his campaign. Additionally, past social media posts belied dismissive attitudes toward military sexual assault and contained homophobic slurs.
Amid these revelations, Maine’s Gov. Janet Mills continues to appear on the ballot despite suspending active campaigning. Mills’ name will be counted for the Democratic primary, as confirmed by Maine’s deputy secretary of state.
The remarks by Rep. Dean also addressed broader foreign and domestic policies. She criticized the Trump administration’s approach to Iran and advocated diplomatic engagement to prevent nuclear escalation in Tehran. Dean stressed the necessity of dialogue and opposed the unfreezing of Iranian assets without reciprocal concessions.
On the domestic front, Dean revealed opposition amongst Democrats to the $1.8 billion “weaponization fund” proposed for immigration enforcement. She argued against further funding for ICE, calling for financial reduction rather than increase.
Dean’s comments reflect ongoing tensions within political circles as Maine’s Democratic Senate primary unfolds amid Platner’s scrutiny. Attempts by Fox News Digital to reach Platner for comment have thus far been unsuccessful.
