Earlier this month, the picturesque locations of Rio de Janeiro served as the backdrop for the wedding celebration of Conor Kennedy and Brazilian pop star Giulia Bourguignon Marinho. Images from the celebration have been circulating on social media, captivating fans and followers.
Conor Kennedy is the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who served as the Health & Human Services Secretary during the Trump administration. The couple’s wedding festivities took place over three days, starting on October 8. The events included a blessing at the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, a ceremony at the historical Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé, and a reception at a storied mansion in Jardim Botânico, as reported by various outlets.
According to Vogue, the couple had a private civil ceremony in Los Angeles in March. Speaking to Vogue, Marinho, also known as Giulia Be, expressed, “We wanted to celebrate not just the wedding, but also Rio de Janeiro, the city we love. Being there, overlooking Rio, with our family was one of those moments I’ll never forget.”
The religious ceremony was held at Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo da Antiga Sé, a paramount historical edifice in downtown Rio. Earlier this year, Marinho mentioned to Brazilian outlet Globo that she saw the occasion as an opportunity to unite all of Kennedy’s friends and family in Brazil, emphasizing her desire to offer them a memorable experience. She humorously told her fiancé, “My love, I love you, but I’m not getting married in Massachusetts.”
The church, commonly known as Antiga Sé, is situated in Rio’s historic center. Its origins trace back to 1808, when it served as the royal chapel and cathedral for the Portuguese royal court upon their arrival in Brazil. Nearby is the historic Praça XV de Novembro, known for its Saturday flea market featuring antiques, records, and clothing, as noted by The New York Times. This area also provides access to other historical sites and waterfront vistas.
The festivities began with a welcome party in the Alto da Boa Vista hills. The following day, attendees engaged in beach volleyball at Ipanema before heading to the Christ the Redeemer for a blessing. Positioned on Corcovado Mountain within Tijuca National Park, the statue provides panoramic views of the city.
The reception was hosted at Instituto Brando Barbosa in Jardim Botânico, adjacent to the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, a site renowned for its botanical collection and historical surroundings.
Conor Kennedy is the grandson of the late Senator Robert F. Kennedy, a sibling of President John F. Kennedy. Photos from the event, shared by RFK Jr. on social media, included shots of the family beneath the Christ the Redeemer statue and highlights of the joyful extravaganza. His wife, Cheryl Hines, appeared with samba dancers, while the newlyweds were seen checking game updates.
Marinho opted for a Calvin Klein slip dress during the wedding blessing, a nod to the simplicity and grace of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, Conor’s late aunt. In response to RFK Jr.’s social media post, Marinho affectionately wrote, “Love you, Bobby.” She expressed her joy at seeing everyone enjoying her hometown.
