Colorado Rockies rookie center fielder Cole Carrigg faced disciplinary action after an incident during Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. As the Rockies lost 2-1, Carrigg responded to heckling from Braves fans by making a rude gesture.

During the game, Carrigg attempted to catch a fly ball hit by Michael Harris II, but missed it, resulting in a two-run double that shifted the lead to Atlanta. This led to cheering from the Braves fans, which Carrigg reacted to inappropriately.

Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer addressed the issue publicly, expressing disappointment in Carrigg’s behavior. Schaeffer stated, “Cole made a mistake, and he knows that is an embarrassment to the organization. We don’t stand for that. Everyone makes mistakes, but he needs to learn from it. We will not tolerate such actions.” He confirmed Carrigg would be out of the starting lineup for a few days.

Despite the benching, Carrigg played as a pinch hitter in Sunday’s finale, going 0-for-2 with a strikeout. He later positioned himself in center field and shortstop during the game.

Following the incident, Carrigg acknowledged his mistake. He apologized sincerely, stating, “First, I apologize to my teammates and the organization, that’s not how I want to represent us. That’s inexcusable on my part.” Carrigg reaffirmed his commitment to giving his all to the team and the game. He expressed regret over the gesture, acknowledging the passion of Braves fans.
