Cody Rhodes Pays Tribute to Andy Williams’ Legacy in Wrestling

Cody Rhodes, a prominent figure in WWE, expressed his grief over the passing of Andy Williams, also known in the wrestling world as The Butcher. Williams passed away over the weekend after collapsing post-match at Enjoy Wrestling in Pennsylvania. He was 48 years old.

Williams was known not only for his wrestling career but also as a musician. He played guitar in the band Every Time I Die, alongside vocalist Keith Buckley. The duo attended the 2014 Gibson Brands AP Music Awards at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.

Rhodes had a memorable encounter with The Butcher during Williams’ All Elite Wrestling (AEW) debut. The Butcher, alongside The Blade and Bunny, dramatically appeared from beneath the ring, ambushing Rhodes after a match. Reflecting on this moment, Rhodes shared in an interview with OutKick Dropkick, “When I was away from WWE, we recruited him, Blade, and Bunny for an exciting debut. He emerged from under the ring, and they attacked me. We didn’t spend enough time together, but his warm and charismatic nature left an impression.”

“He didn’t need the wrestling gig; he had another career. Despite the rugged look—mustache, tattoos, muscles—he was truly special, intelligent, artistic, and beautiful.”

Rhodes continued, “I wish I had been around him more, but I’m grateful for being part of his entry into AEW. My thoughts are with those close to him. His sudden passing is shocking. He was a beautiful person who left a positive impact on many locker rooms.”

Williams began his wrestling training in the early 2010s and entered the professional scene in 2015. Teaming up with Guilmette in 2017, they became known as The Butcher and The Blade. Their presence was felt across various promotions, including AEW, Ring of Honor (ROH), and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).

The wrestling community mourned Williams’ passing on Sunday, remembering him for his contributions and the stories he left behind. His influence extended beyond the ring, touching the lives of many colleagues and fans alike.
