Over a year after a baby was found abandoned near a dumpster in Riverside, police have arrested the mother. The investigation commenced on May 4, 2025, when concerned residents reported cries from a dumpster enclosure at an apartment complex on Jackson Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a resident had located the infant. The baby, still attached to the umbilical cord, was lying next to the dumpster, exposed to the rain. Paramedics transported the newborn, believed to have been delivered just hours earlier, to a hospital. The current condition of the child remains undisclosed.
Riverside Police Department’s detectives specializing in sexual assault and child abuse led the investigation. They identified the mother as 26-year-old Astrid Nohemi Lopez Ramos, who resides in Riverside.
Lopez Ramos was arrested on September 17, facing charges of child endangerment. She was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center with a bail of $35,000.

California law permits parents or guardians to safely surrender a newborn within 72 hours after birth without any questions. In Riverside County, this can be done at most hospitals and fire stations.
