Chicago Bears Aim for Record-Breaking Season

The Chicago Bears had a notable NFL season under new head coach Ben Johnson and standout quarterback Caleb Williams. They clinched the NFC North title and progressed to the NFC Divisional Round.

Williams showcased his talent by throwing nearly 4,000 yards in his second season and first with Johnson’s guidance. However, Johnson envisions greater achievements in the upcoming season.

“Our goal is to win the Super Bowl. Beyond that, I want the highest-scoring offense ever. The 2013 Denver Broncos hold that record, averaging 37.9 points per game. I aim to surpass them. I want shutouts and blowouts,” Johnson stated according to The Athletic’s Dan Pompei.

The Bears managed an average of 25.9 points per game last season. Despite some setbacks like receiver Luther Burden’s training camp injury, he’ll return soon. On defense, the Bears didn’t record any shutouts last season. Their closest effort was a 31-3 win over the Cleveland Browns in December 2025.

Training camp has been challenging. Safety Coby Bryant is out for six months, and cornerback Kyler Gordon faces a persistent calf issue.

Last season marked a successful start for the Johnson-Williams duo. However, ESPN notes that expectations of potential regression exist given the Bears’ difficult schedule this year.

Preseason begins on Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Browns, who are evaluating quarterbacks Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders.

The regular season poses tougher challenges. The Bears will face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Aug. 13, followed by a home game against the possibly improved Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Aug. 20.

Other formidable opponents include the Philadelphia Eagles and reigning Super Bowl teams, the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. The Bears will also face tough NFC North rivals throughout the season.

Fox Sports projects Chicago’s over/under win total at 9.5 games, with the odds favoring fewer wins. Achieving Johnson’s Super Bowl goal seems ambitious under these circumstances.
