According to CBS News, Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, is at risk of facing renewed scrutiny and potential political attacks due to his previous comments. The network highlighted El-Sayed’s deleted social media posts, including those from 2020, where he compared the nearly 3,000 American lives lost on 9/11 to the fatalities caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Another post from September 11, 2021, first uncovered by The Washington Free Beacon, referenced mourning the lives lost in the attacks and compared them to the devastation in three countries allegedly in the name of the U.S.

Far-left commentator Hasan Piker criticized the piece, and Mehdi Hasan, founder of Zeteo and former MSNBC host, questioned whether it was Islamophobic to associate the potential first Muslim Democratic senator with 9/11.
Tim Miller, host of The Bulwark podcast and MS NOW analyst, labeled CBS’s coverage as anti-Muslim, while Rep. Yassamin Ansari, D-Ariz., expressed disdain for what she called an unreal headline. Vox host and editorial director Astead Herndon lamented the decline in credibility of institutional media.
A CBS News source defended the publication, noting that reports on deleted social media posts of politicians are regularly published. El-Sayed addressed his comments on the campaign trail, emphasizing the tragedy of 9/11 and the need to prevent unnecessary wars involving American servicemen and women.
CBS News declined to comment further on the matter when contacted by Fox News Digital.
