Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver is grieving the tragic loss of his 2-year-old son. Oliver, requesting privacy, mourns his son’s passing while asking for prayers, according to ESPN. His son, also named Ed, was found unresponsive in a residential pool in Harris County, Texas, on June 28. This was confirmed by a source familiar with the situation, who spoke under the condition of anonymity as the team and player have not disclosed these details publicly.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Department posted on Facebook about the incident without sharing specific details, mentioning a toddler’s drowning in a community north of Houston. The statement read, “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the toddler’s family during this incredibly difficult time. The investigation is ongoing.” A sheriff’s official noted that a report was not immediately available.

Ed Oliver, now 28 years old, has been part of the Buffalo Bills since being selected in the first round of the 2019 draft out of Houston. He joined the training camp on schedule last month and played in the Bills’ preseason opener with Carolina, which they won 29-14. However, due to an undisclosed injury, he hasn’t been practicing this week and was absent for the team’s preseason game in Cleveland.
