Bryson DeChambeau Faces Tensions in LIV Golf Amid Financial Uncertainty

47 minutes ago 0

Bryson DeChambeau appears tense as the LIV Golf season finale approaches in Indianapolis. The future of LIV Golf beyond 2026 remains uncertain after the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced it would cease funding the circuit at the season’s end. In a further blow, the event in Indianapolis has halved its individual purse from $20 million to $10.1 million.

Given these circumstances, DeChambeau, a prominent figure in LIV Golf, seems understandably frustrated. This tension was evident when he interacted with media members observing his practice at the driving range. On arrival at the practice area at The Club at Chatham Hills, he greeted the reporters with a pointed comment.

“Oooh the mafia has arrived. The mafia. You guys love talking s–t,” DeChambeau remarked.

According to Sean Zak from Golf.com, DeChambeau’s comment was mostly in jest. However, the situation escalated the next day when Ryan French, known for his Monday Q Info account, was asked to leave by someone on DeChambeau’s team. French clarified that he was merely observing the practice.

French later shared that DeChambeau reached out to him personally. “Bryson gave me a call this afternoon, and we spoke for about 20 minutes,” he wrote. This direct outreach is notable, as few players might have done the same.

The remaining fixtures for LIV Golf in 2026 also faced disruption, including the cancellation of the LIV Team Championship in Michigan. DeChambeau, now 32, heads into the Indianapolis event after a recent T-38 finish at LIV New York. His performance in major championships has also been below par, missing cuts in three of the four events.
