Ben Affleck provided clarity on rumors surrounding a notable scene from one of his many film roles. At 54, Affleck confirmed that he appeared nude without the use of prosthetics in the 2014 thriller “Gone Girl.”
In the movie, directed by David Fincher and adapted from Gillian Flynn’s novel, Affleck plays Nick Dunne, who becomes a suspect when his wife Amy, played by Rosamund Pike, goes missing. Commenting on the shower scene in the film, Affleck told Variety, “I wore no prosthesis.” He did mention previously using one for a different film, “Hollywoodland,” for a nose.
While filming, Affleck shared that the director assured him that the scene would not reveal more than intended. “David assured me — because trust is essential with directors and actors — ‘Listen, if we tilt down, we’ll never go far enough to see anything,'” Affleck said when accepting an award at the Hollywood Film Awards in 2014.
Affleck humorously added, “I’d like to thank you for keeping the set cool … If you’re gonna have one chance for America to see your junk, you want it to be cold.” Reflecting on the film years later, he described working with Fincher as “the great privilege of my life,” and praised him as one of the top filmmakers.
Affleck’s ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, also joked about the scene during a 2014 appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” She remarked, “What I have to say is, ‘You’re welcome,'” and noted her intention to give back to the audience.
