Baby Rescued from Rubble After Earthquake in Colombia

On August 10, 2026, a catastrophic 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Colombia. A video shared by Brian Osorio Zuluaga on Facebook shows a dramatic rescue effort. A young baby was pulled alive from the rubble of a collapsed building.

The footage depicts a group of individuals sifting through debris. They communicated with a survivor trapped beneath who revealed he was with a baby. As they worked, the cries of the child echoed.

In another video, a man held the crying infant with blood on his arms, while still trapped. Five men managed to remove the baby from this man’s grasp and called for medical assistance. The rescue team then celebrated their success with cheers before turning their efforts to freeing the survivor holding the child.

Zuluaga reflected on the experience, stating, “Today I understood, more than ever, that no one is really prepared to live through a situation like the one we are experiencing today.” He described the solidarity witnessed at the site and the importance of mutual assistance in such dire circumstances.

The conditions of the rescued infant and the man remain unclear as rescue operations continue. Search teams and volunteers are urgently working to unearth more survivors from the debris.

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella, who assumed office days before the disaster, reported that at least 181 people had perished, with 2,595 others injured. Civilian databases indicate nearly 4,000 individuals are still missing.

The international community has extended support. The United States pledged over $15 million in aid, while Mexico’s president has committed to sending search and medical teams along with supplies. Additionally, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele announced the dispatch of two planes loaded with 100 tons of assistance.

Bukele expressed his condolences on social media to the families affected, extending prayers for the victims and the Colombian people.
