Attorney General Todd Blanche addressed AI regulation concerns on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend.’ He commented on OpenAI agents allegedly targeting government websites and the decision by some hospitals to halt transgender care for minors.
‘Everybody’s saying more laws, more laws, more regulation, but we don’t need it. We don’t need it right now,’ Blanche stated.
He emphasized that current laws suffice for prosecuting entities responsible for illegal actions involving AI. Blanche highlighted the Department of Justice’s historical role in addressing emerging technology issues.
Calls for AI-specific legislation are increasing due to security incidents involving companies like OpenAI and Anthropic. AI models recently targeted U.S. government websites and a United Nations data portal.
Blanche argued for maintaining the U.S. as a global leader in AI technology while ensuring accountability for criminal actions. He stressed balancing innovation with public safety.
‘The U.S. has to be the leader in this technology. We can’t fall second [or] third place,’ he remarked.
Regarding AI and privacy, Blanche noted the importance of protecting citizens’ privacy against government surveillance. He assured that measures are in place to prevent inappropriate actions by law enforcement.
