Tycen Proper, a 19-year-old from Ohio, faces charges of attempted murder of a federal officer and conspiracy against the United States. Federal authorities stopped an attack planned for the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House, as per court documents.
Proper is among several arrested in connection with the planned attack meant to coincide with the 250th anniversary celebration of the United States.
During an interview, Proper reportedly confessed to collaborating with others on an attack targeting the U.S. government at the UFC event scheduled for June 14, 2026, on the White House lawn in Washington, D.C., according to an affidavit seen by Newsweek.
The affidavit mentions that law enforcement spoke with Proper’s mother, who stated her son had been engaging with an online group. This group is described as having members claiming to be former military personnel with Christian affiliations.
The group reportedly expressed strong religious views and anti-government beliefs, according to the affidavit.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced on X that law enforcement was alerted to the potential threat on June 10. He added that several individuals are detained and planned attacks have been effectively stopped.
Newsweek reached out to Proper’s public defender for comments via email.
This is an unfolding story. More details will be shared as they become available.
