Arrest Made in Connection With Penn State Student Murder

The U.S. Marshals have announced the arrest of a 16-year-old suspect in Colorado linked to the murder of Penn State student Billy Schmidt. Philadelphia police confirmed that both 16-year-olds involved will be charged as adults for the crime that occurred on June 6 during a robbery and shooting.

Authorities are still searching for Kaiseem Smith, the second suspect, who remains at large. A wanted poster has been issued in hopes of capturing him.

Another Violent Crime Tied to Same Investigation

Khadfi Fleming, 19, known for his involvement in the robbery linked to Schmidt’s murder, is now sought in connection with another crime in Philadelphia. This incident involved an exchange of gunfire with an off-duty police officer. The U.S. Marshals Service has offered a cash reward for information about his whereabouts.

The altercation occurred when suspected thieves targeted the officer’s vehicle, a Dodge Charger. The confrontation led to gunfire, but no injuries were reported. The damaged vehicle was found later with multiple shell casings nearby.

Investigators discovered that the suspects transferred to another stolen car, a Lexus, which was later found abandoned.

Search Continues for Khadfi Fleming

Khadfi Fleming is being pursued for robbery and is considered a person of interest in the recent incident involving the officer. He hasn’t yet been charged regarding that event. Fleming was already wanted due to his connection with Schmidt’s murder in June.

Billy Schmidt was tragically killed near his home in South Philadelphia while returning from an NBA Finals watch party. Surveillance footage captured the moments before his death, showing Schmidt asking for his stolen phone before he was shot.

Billy’s father recalled his son as a caring individual who harmed no one, emphasizing the tragedy of his death.

Continuing Efforts and Appeal for Public Assistance

The U.S. Marshals Service captured Azzubair Outen-Fleming, one of the suspects, in Colorado a month after the incident. He was found at a relative’s house and initially attempted to hide his identity.

Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore confirmed that Outen-Fleming faces murder charges. Meanwhile, the second teen suspect, Kaiseem Smith, has surrendered to police.

Billy Schmidt was a digital journalism and media student at Penn State, anticipating graduation in December. His untimely death has led to ongoing investigations to identify all involved parties.
