Ariana Grande’s Chart-Topping Success with ‘Hate That I Made You Love Me’

2 weeks ago 0

Ariana Grande has reached a significant milestone as her song “Hate That I Made You Love Me” tops the Billboard Hot 100. This marks her 10th song to reach the top position and her eighth to debut at number one on the chart. Grande is gearing up for the release of her eighth album, Petal, with an impressive streak where the first single from each album lands in the top 10 of the Hot 100.

Currently, Drake maintains his hold on the Billboard 200 with ICEMAN, while a previously lesser-known Michael Jackson track gains traction. Last week, the first Songs of the Summer chart of 2026 by Billboard resembled the Hot 100 singles chart, and as the summer progresses, more weeks will contribute to this average. Tracks with longevity, like Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas”, gain from this process, but Drake’s new songs show signs of decline.

This week’s notable shift in the Hot 100 sees “Janice STFU” dropping to number three, with “Choosin’ Texas” reclaiming the second spot. Entering at number one is Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me”, indicating her consistent chart success as each first single from her albums has debuted in the top 10, including the title tracks from Thank U, Next and Positions, and now Petal.

Grande’s latest number one can be attributed to strong sales, boasting 55,000 digital downloads across different mixes. This song, co-written and co-produced by Max Martin, adds to his record of producing 28 number one singles. Martin’s songwriting prowess also places him near Paul McCartney’s record, having penned or co-penned 30 top-charting songs.

Top Albums

Paul McCartney remains a force in the music world, featuring in the top 10 of Billboard’s albums chart with two albums. His new solo album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, debuts at number five. McCartney also appears on Michael Jackson’s Thriller, which is at number six.

Meanwhile, Drake’s ICEMAN holds the number one album spot for a third consecutive week. However, his additional releases HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR are on a declining trend. Among new entries, K-pop group aespa’s LEMONADE makes a debut at number nine, supported by many CD editions.

Other significant album debuts include Shinedown’s EI8HT at number 12, Latto’s Big Mama at 16, and Boards of Canada’s Inferno at 29.

Top Songs

Beyond Grande’s top position, the Hot 100 continues as predicted. Drake’s influence wanes, while Ella Langley secures three songs within the top 10. Olivia Dean and Olivia Rodrigo each see two songs in the top 15, with Rodrigo gearing up for her new release.

Looking forward, Grande faces incoming pressure from Langley and Taylor Swift. Swift’s contribution to Toy Story 5, “I Knew It, I Knew You”, had a recent release and may challenge for the top spots.

Michael Jackson’s presence on the charts is noteworthy. The biopic Michael has spurred interest in his catalog, including the track “Chicago” from Xscape, which has surged into the Hot 100. Originally recorded in 1999, “Chicago” now enjoys viral attention, including on TikTok, and continues climbing the charts without direct ties to the film.

Jackson achieves a new milestone, becoming the first artist with song debuts in the Hot 100 across each decade since the 1970s.
