59 minutes ago 0

In moments of strong division, Americans manage to show unity on certain occasions. Today reflects one such moment, as the nation comes together to honor Dale Earnhardt and his lasting legacy. Dale represented values deeply rooted in American culture. He was relatable, from the mechanic in a garage to a figure in corporate America, to the person taking a boat out to fish.

On February 15, 1998, Dale Earnhardt achieved victory in the Daytona 500 at Daytona Beach, Florida. This victory came after 20 attempts, aligning with the 50th anniversary of NASCAR’s inaugural race.

Recently, a tweet from the Greensboro Police Department sparked reactions nationwide. The tweet jokingly suggested “‘Raise hell, Praise Dale,’ is not an appropriate response when we ask you why you were speeding.” This statement prompted a burst of online defense for Dale’s memory.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., among others, joined the virtual uproar, reminiscent of the strong and competitive spirit his father embodied. Even NASCAR responded, urging fans to “Leave the speeding for the race track,” only to face criticism from loyal fans who recall NASCAR’s origins—routes honed by dodging law enforcement while transporting moonshine.

Despite evolutions in the sport, many hold firmly to the roots and rebellious spirit of NASCAR. This sentiment is echoed widely across communities and platforms, as dedicated fans continue to “praise Dale.” This social loyalty to Dale Earnhardt remains unwavering.
