A heated exchange occurred near New York City’s 9/11 memorial, involving a firefighter confronting a pro-Palestinian protester. The protester, wearing an Elmo costume and holding a Palestinian flag, was labeled “anti-American” by the firefighter. The incident was recorded and shared by Turning Point USA on X.
The firefighter, whose current or retired status was unclear, urged the protester to “go back to Palestine” and mentioned figures like former President Barack Obama, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Gov. Kathy Hochul, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the confrontation. “Take ‘em all. They’re all no good!” the firefighter shouted.

As the firefighter departed, another voice in the crowd shouted, “The Jews are committing a genocide,” though it was unclear who made this statement. The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) clarified to Fox News that the person involved in the incident was not, and never had been, a member of the department.
The exchange coincided with the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, which targeted sites including the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Dignitaries, including former presidents and Vice President JD Vance, attended the Ground Zero ceremony. President Trump delivered a keynote speech at a Pentagon event.
NYC Mayor Mamdani, Gov. Hochul, and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez also participated in the memorial activities, meeting with relatives of the victims.
