AEW’s ‘Rebel Heart’ Event to Support Tanea Brooks Battling ALS

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is set to host a special edition of Dynamite on Wednesday, dedicated to pro wrestler Tanea Brooks, known as Rebel. She is currently fighting ALS. This event, titled Rebel Heart, will take place at the Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia. Pro wrestling communities, including AEW, have rallied behind Brooks since her diagnosis was announced in May.

Support has poured in from stars across various promotions. Many have promoted Rebel Heart merchandise and participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise funds and awareness.

Tony Khan, owner of AEW and Ring of Honor (ROH), emphasized the importance of the event. “Rebel’s been a great friend to all of us and a part of AEW from the beginning,” he said. He confirmed the show will honor Brooks in her fight against ALS. Khan expressed how integral Brooks is to the AEW family.

Brooks publicly revealed her ALS diagnosis on May 1, stating, “The doctors have diagnosed me with terminal ALS.” She expressed gratitude and highlighted the challenges she faces with walking and talking, acknowledging the progressive decline in her functions.

Joining AEW in 2019, Brooks initially worked backstage and as a stylist. Her on-screen debut came in 2020, partnering with Britt Baker as her makeup artist. Before a wrestling injury, Brooks also had a career with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) and appeared in Ohio Valley Wrestling, Stardom, and WWE.

The Rebel Heart card features an array of matches: Will Ospreay competes against David Finlay in an AEW World Championship elimination match, while Darby Allin and Steven Borden face Mark Davis and Josh Alexander in tag team action. The AEW World Trios Championship will also be contested, with Swerve Strickland, Kofi, and Austin Creed taking on Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reily, and Roderick Strong.

In other highlights, Maya World teams with Hyan and Thunder Rosa against Persephone, Baker, and Hikaru Shida. The Young Bucks face off against Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight in a tables match.

Brooks will feature in a segment called “The Waiting Room” with Baker. Additionally, Persephone and Hikaru Shida are expected to appear. The wrestling community’s unified support shows Brooks’ cherished place within AEW, underscoring the event’s significance.
