FBI Shoots Suspect in Bank Robbery Case in West Garfield Park

4 weeks ago 0

The FBI shot and killed a suspect on Thursday in West Garfield Park. Court records reveal the man was part of a group linked to several recent bank robberies in nearby suburbs.

Abdulhafedh Abdulhafedh, 25, had been released from prison less than six months ago. He was convicted of robbing a bank in Will County. He also had an active arrest warrant from DuPage County for possession of a stolen car earlier this year. His family was not reachable for comments, and his address remains unknown.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed that Abdulhafedh died from multiple gunshot wounds, classifying his death as a homicide. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at the 3700 block of West Lexington Street. The FBI stated that they stopped a vehicle occupied by individuals wanted in connection with a violent bank robbery.

Court documents filed on Friday in a related case identified Abdulhafedh as “Co-Conspirator A.” He was associated with Dayvon Walton, the alleged mastermind of the “100K gang.” Authorities link this group to several bank robberies in the Chicago area, including a dramatic robbery at BMO Harris Bank in St. Charles on April 21.

A video on social media shows the suspect shooting from the sunroof of a vehicle after being stopped by federal agents. An FBI agent’s affidavit indicates Abdulhafedh was already a subject in investigations involving at least five BMO Harris Bank locations in Chicago. He had an active parole warrant issued by the Illinois Department of Corrections as of May 28, 2026.

The affidavit outlines that Walton, Abdulhafedh, and two others were in a black SUV stopped by federal agents. While Walton and others fled, Abdulhafedh stayed in the vehicle. A video shows agents surrounding the SUV as Abdulhafedh attempted to escape. They used a flash grenade, causing the sunroof to shatter, leading to a firefight where the agents responded to shots fired at them.

The FBI stated that it takes incidents involving their agents or task force members seriously. Their Inspection Division is currently reviewing the incident, and further details will not be shared due to the ongoing investigation.

Walton was arrested later on Thursday. In an interview without an attorney, he admitted to participating in the April 21 robbery and another attempted robbery in Niles on April 6.

Records indicate Abdulhafedh was previously convicted of bank robbery in Will County and sentenced to four years in prison. His parole date was listed as Jan. 8, 2026. In 2023, he was also convicted of possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing, leading to a three-year sentence in Cook County. He had prior convictions for burglary, theft, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
