Kid Rock Honors Fallen Soldiers on Memorial Day

4 weeks ago 0

Kid Rock began Memorial Day with a heartfelt tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for America. “This Memorial Day we are remembering the sacrifice and service of so many who are not with us today,” he stated. “God bless all of you for your sacrifice, for your service. Keep on Kid Rockin’ in the free world.”

The musician, known officially as Robert Ritchie, is closely associated with American patriotism. He supports the military and has toured with the United Service Organizations (USO) to entertain troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. These efforts underlined his commitment to the troops.

In a conversation with Fox News’ Will Cain, Rock discussed how his sense of patriotism deepened after meeting survivors of the Al Qaeda attack on the USS Cole. “It really started with the bombing of the USS Cole,” Rock shared. “They were playing my music when that ship got towed out of the harbor and 17 sailors lost their lives. We ended up playing a show in Virginia and donating all the proceeds to the families.”

Rock characterized his work honoring U.S. troops as demanding yet profoundly rewarding. He expressed pride in his efforts to support military personnel. Additionally, Rock has been a supporter of President Donald Trump, performing at the 2024 Republican National Convention shortly after Trump was injured in a campaign incident.

His current tour, “Freedom 250,” heavily features patriotic themes. He is performing around the country with artists such as Jon Pardi, Big & Rich, Parker McCollum, Brantley Gilbert, and Them Dirty Roses.

In March, Rock became the subject of a public debate after a video of two Apache helicopters near his Tennessee home caused controversy. This led to an Army investigation and a temporary suspension of the flight crew involved. However, War Secretary Pete Hegseth later lifted the suspension and closed the investigation.

Rock later participated in a private military helicopter ride in Washington, D.C., with Hegseth. Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell noted the trip allowed Kid Rock to engage with service members and give thanks for their dedication and service.

Hegseth described Rock as “a patriot and huge supporter of our troops” in a post on social media, which also faced criticism over perceived misuse of taxpayer resources.

Despite the criticism, Rock stated to Cain that such comments were “just noise,” emphasizing his long-standing support for the military. He highlighted his previous efforts and trips to support troops, asserting the information was publicly available online.

As Memorial Day is observed across the United States, Kid Rock’s message serves as a reminder of the day’s purpose and the sacrifices made by those who served.
