The May Ship Repair Contracting Corporation on Staten Island experienced a tragic incident on Friday. A fire erupted on a dock that was under construction, leading to two explosions. This resulted in the death of a subcontractor and left dozens injured.
Nadia Adam, the executive vice president of the company, confirmed the fire’s role in causing the explosions. The dock had been under construction for nine months without prior issues. She expressed deep sorrow for the deceased, who was a long-time subcontractor, survived by a wife and two children.
The Fire Department and the Police Department were investigating the scene on Saturday. The company assured full cooperation in unraveling the cause of the event. “Safety is our first priority,” Ms. Adam emphasized. She was present at the shipyard when she was informed about the explosion on Friday.
May Ship Repair is a small, family-owned enterprise with less than 50 employees. They focus on local hiring and have been an integral part of the Staten Island community. The tragic events have left the family determined to understand the root cause of the disaster and prioritize safety even further.
