The WNBA took swift action by rescinding the technical foul given to the Indiana Fever player during their victory against the Chicago Sky, erasing the penalty which would have sidelined Clark.
Clark was initially at risk of missing the upcoming game against the New York Liberty, a critical matchup for Indiana as they advance through the season. The penalty was withdrawn after a league spokesperson informed The Associated Press.
During the third quarter of the game, Clark collided with a referee when she was forced out of bounds and was issued a technical foul. The Fever secured a 90-86 win despite the incident.
Caitlin Clark reacted by calling for full-time WNBA referees, citing increased officiating errors in 2026. She immediately argued for the technical foul to be rescinded, emphasizing the contact was accidental and did not result in any verbal dispute.
Clark expressed optimism that the league would review and overturn the decision, stating, “I have already watched it on tape. So, we’ll let the league decide. But, it wasn’t anything intentional or anything,” demonstrating her confidence in the review process.
