Félicien Kabuga, a prominent Rwandan businessman indicted for his alleged role in the 1994 genocide, died on May 16 in The Hague. He was at least 90 years old.
Kabuga faced charges of genocide and crimes against humanity. He was accused of providing weapons to Hutu militias responsible for the massacre of over 800,000 people, predominantly ethnic Tutsis, and moderate Hutus. The genocide remains one of the most brutal in recent history.
Kabuga eluded authorities for decades before his eventual arrest. He became a significant figure in discussions about international justice, underlining the difficulties in capturing and prosecuting those accused of such grave crimes.
