Spencer Pratt Visits Hyde Park

Spencer Pratt, a mayoral candidate, visited South Los Angeles on Wednesday. He attended a block party in Hyde Park, a neighborhood previously represented by the incumbent Mayor Karen Bass during her congressional years. Pratt avoided media questions, much like his previous event in Sherman Oaks.

Community Concerns

Marcella Anglada, a local resident aged 61, showed Pratt a video of deteriorating sidewalks. These sidewalks are impassable for her motorized wheelchair. She expressed her support for Pratt, confident that he will address the issue. Broken sidewalks, she explained, pose significant challenges for older residents using mobility aids.

Support from the Community

Jonathan Parker, who grew up in the area, appreciated Pratt’s outreach. He noted the importance of Pratt’s presence in the neighborhood. Parker and his wife, Victoriah Bech Parker, run a charity on Skid Row. They recently sought a federal investigation into alleged animal abuse in the area. Pratt is the only candidate showing support for their cause.

Victoriah Bech Parker mentioned her willingness to collaborate with anyone, regardless of political affiliation, to improve conditions for both humans and animals in downtown Los Angeles, known for homelessness and encampments.

Campaign Atmosphere

Residents enjoyed meals from food trucks provided by Pratt’s campaign. They stayed cool under canopies while listening to a mix of music, from recent hits to James Brown classics. Pratt declared plans for more community grilling events, referencing opponent Nithya Raman’s past proposal to limit barbecues on fire danger days, which Raman no longer supports.

Support Base and Social Media

Supporters from various parts of the city, like Miki Yamashita, also attended the event. Yamashita, who manages an Instagram page for Pratt supporters, came wearing a distinctive shirt and emphasized backing Pratt for supporting small businesses and families.

Throughout the day, the event attracted media attention and was documented on social media platforms.
