Manhunt for Former Special Forces Soldier in Tennessee

3 days ago 0

The search for Craig Berry, a retired special forces soldier accused of attempting to murder his wife, has extended into its fifth day. Authorities are actively searching a section of northern Tennessee in an effort to locate him.

Berry, charged with attempted murder, reportedly escaped into the woods. Stewart County Sheriff’s Office describes him as having “extensive training in survival tactics.” His skills include being an excellent swimmer and diver, and he is in good physical condition. Berry is familiar with the local area, which potentially aids his evasion.

An image believed to show Berry was captured by a trail camera on May 1, 2026. At that time, he was wearing camouflage clothing, and the sheriff’s office states that he is armed and likely carrying additional ammunition. Although he is not believed to have a phone, investigators remain open to the possibility he might have received assistance since the alleged shooting.

The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office is working alongside the U.S. Marshals Service, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol. They plan to execute a comprehensive search of an area on the eastern side of Kentucky Lake this week. Sheriff Frankie Gray acknowledged that locating Berry might take time.

Berry has been on the run since May 1, following a report of his wife’s shooting during a domestic argument. She was hospitalized, but her condition remains unknown as of Tuesday. Stewart County, where the incident occurred, is near the Kentucky border, approximately 75 miles northeast of Nashville.
