Senator Mitch McConnell Returns Home After Hospitalization

1 month ago 0

Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has been released from the hospital and is now recuperating at home. His spokesperson announced on Wednesday that McConnell is currently working from home on the recommendation of his doctors. After spending a week under medical care, McConnell expressed his gratitude for the excellent treatment he received.

McConnell was hospitalized on February 2, after his office reported that he was experiencing symptoms similar to those of the flu. At 83 years old, McConnell had already declared last year that he would not be running for re-election, leading to an active primary race to determine his successor.

In recent times, there have been growing concerns about McConnell’s health due to multiple instances where he froze on camera. In 2023, he suffered a concussion from a fall, and in 2019, he fractured his shoulder while at home. More recently, following several falls within the Capitol complex, McConnell was observed being assisted in a wheelchair by his staff members.

McConnell, first elected to the Senate in 1984, served as the Republican leader in the Senate from 2007 until 2025. Despite having supported Donald Trump in his presidential campaigns in 2016 and 2020, McConnell and Trump have frequently disagreed on various issues.

McConnell’s political actions over recent years include voting against the confirmation of two of the current president’s Cabinet nominees: Tulsi Gabbard, now the director of national intelligence, and Pete Hegseth, now the secretary of defense. Additionally, McConnell has been a vocal critic of Trump’s tariff policies.
