The Los Angeles Chargers anticipated notable improvements in their offensive play after hiring Mike McDaniel as the new offensive coordinator. However, as the 2026 season progresses, the team faces challenges.
Currently, the Chargers stand at 0-6, posting the lowest points per game in the league at 15. With quarterback Justin Herbert at the helm, the offense averages just 287.2 total yards per game.
Despite these setbacks, head coach Jim Harbaugh announced that McDaniel would continue to manage the offensive play calls. In defense of McDaniel, Herbert stated, It’s not his fault. It’s our fault as an offense. We have to do our job. The guys are open. Plays are being made. It’s on us to run, to block, to catch, to throw. It’s on us as an offense.
After their Week 7 bye, the Chargers hope to rejuvenate their performance. They prepare for their Week 8 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. The game is scheduled for Sunday, beginning at 4:05 p.m. ET.
