American skiing sensation Lindsey Vonn experienced her first training run since suffering a ruptured ACL in her left knee on a Friday in Milan. Her journey down the course was met with success as she completed her 100-second run smoothly and with a triumphant smile at the finish line. This achievement marked a crucial step in her effort to secure a medal despite her recent injury.
Vonn’s injury occurred a week prior during a World Cup event, when she lost balance after a jump while preparing for a right-hand turn on the Crans-Montana course in Switzerland. The knee affected is not the same one that led to her major surgery, the reason for her 2019 retirement before deciding to make a comeback last year.
The training session was part of the preparation for the women’s downhill event at the Tofane Alpine Skiing Centre. However, it faced a delay of over an hour due to poor visibility in Cortina.
At a press briefing in Cortina, Italy, Vonn shared that she had undergone “extensive therapy” following the ligament rupture. She reassured, “Considering how my knee feels, I feel stable, I feel strong.” She further added, “My knee is not swollen, and with the support of a knee brace, I am confident in my ability to compete on Sunday.”
Before last week’s injury, the 41-year-old athlete had been setting a remarkable comeback marked by consistently good health, which is notable given her history of persistent injuries. Her victories on the World Cup circuit in the previous month had positioned her as a strong contender for medals at Cortina, a venue she cherishes as her favorite competitive course.
