The San Francisco 49ers experienced their first defeat of the season against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Adding to their challenges, running back Christian McCaffrey suffered a thigh injury during the first quarter.

McCaffrey remained on the sidelines throughout the first half, attempting to stay flexible. He returned after halftime, speaking about the incident in a post-game interview.

“I was trying to keep it warm to prevent any worsening,” McCaffrey explained. “It’s tough to fully recover mid-game, but I’ll be fine. I’m confident in my recovery and readiness.”

Despite his optimism, McCaffrey expressed frustration, believing he was poised for a strong performance prior to the injury.

“Adrenaline was high, and as time passed, the pain set in,” McCaffrey remarked. “I’m not too worried about it but today was disappointing because I felt I was gaining momentum.”

The severity of the injury remains unclear. Fans expressed concern, especially given McCaffrey’s history with injuries. His description of the event added to the unease among fans.

“It’s frustrating. My leg just gave out. I struggled to maintain my form for the remainder of the game,” he shared. “It’s frustrating, but I believe I’ll recover.”

McCaffrey has dealt with injuries in past seasons, though he completed a full season last year. Should this affect his playing time, he is familiar with the recovery process.

Despite his abbreviated playtime, McCaffrey managed 39 rushing yards and a touchdown on seven runs, and caught six passes for 61 yards. His rushing touchdown marked the 70th of his career, placing him alongside Marshall Faulk in reaching both 70 rushing touchdowns and 30 receiving touchdowns.
