Supreme Court to Review Home Spirit Distilling Ban

2 hours ago 0

The Supreme Court has decided to examine the constitutionality of a federal ban on home distilling of spirits, a regulation nearly 160 years old. This decision, made on Monday, revisits a law that was originally put in place in 1868 to prevent tax evasion.

Scott McNutt from Robbinsville, New Jersey, has brought forth the challenge to this longstanding prohibition. McNutt, who currently owns a still used for producing fuel alcohol, contends that the ban infringes on his rights. He has expressed interest in legally experimenting with distilling spirits at home.

McNutt’s case raises questions about the validity and relevance of historical regulations in today’s legal and cultural context.
