Elon Musk’s satellite system, Starlink, has faced criticism after restricted access impacted Ukraine’s military operations. Starlink services were reportedly cut off for objects exceeding speeds of 100 miles per hour, affecting drones, aircraft, and helicopters.
This led to online questions, and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) urged Musk to address the issue publicly. Musk clarified that the U.S. military and the president make decisions regarding restrictions on Starshield, Starlink’s military system.
It remains unclear why Ukraine’s military lost access. Musk stated that Starlink, controlled by SpaceX, is a commercial service meant for civilian or defensive use, not offensive military actions.
By Wednesday afternoon, Ukraine’s defense minister announced that SpaceX was addressing satellite speed issues.
