Reflections on 9/11: Memories and Lessons

Father Brian Jordan reflects on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. As a chaplain at Saint Francis of Assisi Church during the events, he shares his memories of that historic day. His focus remains on educating younger generations about the truth of 9/11.

Actor and retired U.S. Marine officer Rob Riggle revisits his experience at Ground Zero. During an interview with Fox News Digital, Riggle described his reaction to the destruction. The scene felt ‘surreal,’ with skyscrapers damaged and buildings collapsed. He recalled the Brooks Brothers store, which was gutted by debris from the towers.

It was surreal to see so much of Manhattan in ruins. It was shocking and hard to process.

Riggle worked with various responders at Ground Zero, including firefighters, police officers, military personnel, and volunteers. They cleared debris by hand to avoid harming potential survivors.

He explained the uncertainty involved in the rescue efforts:

When the whistle blew to stop working, we would pray. We hoped it meant finding someone alive.

Riggle participated in the ‘bucket brigade,’ a group clearing debris in search of survivors. When remains were discovered, they paused to say a prayer for closure and strength to continue.

He highlighted the unity that followed the attacks, a unity ‘unseen in his lifetime.’ He remembered seeing political leaders singing ‘God Bless America’ together on the Capitol steps.

Riggle emphasized the heroism of the firefighters over the terrorists. He pointed out that 9/11 demonstrated the harsh reality of those willing to commit evil acts. Yet, it also showed that for every terrorist, thousands tried to do the right thing.

To him, ‘never forget’ signifies remembering the innocent lives lost and the fact there are more good people than bad. It calls for constant vigilance, acknowledging those in uniform who work to prevent more tragedies.
