In a heartfelt appeal on Instagram, ‘TODAY’ co-anchor Savannah Guthrie called for communication regarding her 84-year-old mother’s possible abduction. In a tearful video posted on Wednesday, Guthrie, alongside her brother and sister, requested whoever might have information on their mother, Nancy Guthrie, to come forward and assured them that her family is ‘ready to talk.’
Guthrie, addressing the camera with prepared statements, acknowledged reports of a ransom note sent to various media outlets. ‘We want to know for sure that she is alive,’ she emphasized, urging anyone with information to reach out. ‘Please reach out to us,’ she pleaded, highlighting the need for confirmation beyond manipulated voices and images.
Appearing with her siblings, Annie and Camron Guthrie, Savannah expressed gratitude for the public’s support, stating, ‘We feel your prayers for our beloved mom, and we believe she feels them too.’ She lovingly described her mother as a ‘kind, faithful, loving woman’ cherished by those around her, particularly her adoring grandchildren.
Her mother’s health, she noted, is fragile. ‘She is in constant pain and without medication. She needs it to survive and not suffer,’ Savannah revealed while holding her sister’s hand.
In an emotional message directly to her mother, Savannah said, ‘If you are hearing this, you are a strong woman, God’s precious daughter Nancy.’
Jim Cavanaugh, former special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, commented on ‘TODAY’ that while the video doesn’t verify the ransom notes’ authenticity, it shows the family is still hopeful and willing to listen. He noted it ‘humanizes’ the situation, emphasizing the importance of showing Guthrie’s connection to her grandchildren.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Saturday night around 9:45 p.m. and reported missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home after not attending church on Sunday. Local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI, are involved in the case. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department believes the potential abduction happened overnight and continues to seek clues despite no suspects identified yet.
Wednesday saw a return of investigators to her Arizona residence. The driveway was guarded by a black, subdued vehicle. ‘Detectives are continuing follow-up at the premises and nearby,’ confirmed a sheriff’s spokesman.
President Donald Trump voiced support, committing federal law enforcement resources to the case. He relayed his message through a direct call with Savannah, promising his full efforts to ensure Nancy Guthrie’s safe return and expressing collective prayers for the family.
Hoda Kotb, Savannah’s former ‘TODAY’ co-host, offered her prayers for Nancy during a vigil at Good Shepherd Church in New York. Meanwhile, investigators are probing apparent blood traces and detected a disconnection of Guthrie’s pacemaker from its monitoring app early Sunday.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos dismissed suggestions of cognitive decline, asserting Nancy’s sharpness and reiterating the absence of dementia. ‘We believe she is here and alive,’ he declared, affirming efforts to rescue her.
Over the years, Nancy Guthrie has become a beloved figure on ‘TODAY,’ her faith and kindness celebrated by those who knew her. ‘The greatest gift my mother gave me was faith and belief in God. It changed my life,’ shared Savannah in a recent episode.
